✨ *Breath: Sacred Rhythm of Life*

✨ *Breath: Sacred Rhythm of Life*

The second post from Divine Design Studio.

“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.”

—Psalm 150:6

Over the course of my life, breath has been more than a biological function—it has been a journey.

I’ve lived with asthma. I’ve studied breath and its patterns with curiosity and persistence. I learned to scuba dive not for thrill, but to understand how breath behaves under pressure. I swam laps for years, not just for the exercise, but for the structured rhythm of breathing that brought peace to my body. I’ve read books and explored many angles—but the deepest truth I’ve found is this:

YHVH is the air that I breathe.

His presence—*Ruach*—is not just around me, but within me.

Every inhale is an invitation. Every exhale, a surrender.

Try this breathing meditation

inhale for a calm count of 5

hold for one

release for a calm count of 4

again

inhale for a calm count of 5

hold for one

release for a calm count of 4

The 5 is for the Paleo Hebrew letter Hey .

Some interpret this living letter with the understanding of

 BEHOLD; REVEAL; BREATH.

The 1 is for the Paleo Hebrew letter Alef.

Some interpret this living letter with the understanding of

OX; STRENGTH; LEADER.

The 4 is for the Paleo Hebrew letter Dalet.

Some interpret this living letter with the understanding of

DOOR; MOVE; ENTRANCE.

Try the breathing meditation with these ideas. They are called Living Letters and you can have a conversation with them.

🌬️ *Do you breathe to live, or do you live to breathe?*

Ian Clayton posed this question and it took me into closer relationship with YHVH.

Most of us breathe to live—automatic, unnoticed, just enough to survive.

But what if we lived to breathe?

What if every inhale became an act of receiving—of taking in YHVH's presence, His Spirit?

What if every exhale was a release—of fear, of striving, of everything that isn’t aligned with Him?

Breath is not just survival. It is sacred rhythm.

It is the sound of YHVH’s name whispered through our bodies.

To live to breathe is to awaken to the mystery…

to become aware of His nearness in the ordinary…

to move in step with the wind of His Spirit.

“But there is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty gives them understanding.”

—Job 32:8

In Hebrew, there are two deeply interconnected words for breath:

Neshama (נְשֵׁמָה) and Ruach (רוּחַ).

Each carries both mystery and revelation.

Neshama speaks of the breath of life—divine, given, and unique to each soul.

Ruach is the wind, the Spirit, the breath of Yahweh moving, filling, hovering, speaking.

“Then the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.”

—Genesis 2:7

And within each of these words live the Hebrew letters—not just characters, but living, breathing symbols, each with depth and essence.

The word Neshama is formed with:

Nun (נ), Shin (ש), Mem (מ), and Hey (ה)

The word Ruach is formed with:

Resh (ר), Vav (ו), and Chet (ח)

These letters are not static. They are alive—like breath itself.

They carry the sound of His voice. They hold movement, memory, and meaning.

They are the language of creation, and the pulse of His presence.

“Prophesy to the breath, prophesy, son of man, and say to it, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Come, breath, from the four winds and breathe into these slain, that they may live.’”

—Ezekiel 37:9

As we breathe, we participate in something ancient and holy.

We join the rhythm of creation itself.

From Word to Form

As I’ve meditated on the mystery of breath and the Spirit of YHVH, I’ve been creating ways to carry those truths into the everyday—through both my own designs and the inspired artwork of Sherry Nielsen.

The Hebrew words Neshama and Ruach, formed by the living letters of God’s language, carry layers of beauty, meaning, and movement. These letters are not just forms—they are frequencies, beings. Echoes of the Word Himself.
